Hazmat 6%

Fomtec Hazmat 6% is especially designed to be used to give a protective blanket for accidental spill of acidic, alkaline or reactive liquids. The foam blanket is very stable with long drainage time. The foam blanket is very stable on both acidic and alkaline substrates.

  • Vapour suppression
  • Protective blanket
  • Acidic and alkaline liquids
  • Low and medium expansion foam
Fomtec Hazmat 6% can

Fomtec Hazmat 6% is recommended to be applied as low or medium expansion. It is recommended to use gentle application method for the foam. The foam should be continuously renewedin order to keep a tight blanket with good sealing properties.

Fire performance & Foaming

Fomtec Hazmat 6% forms a strong foam that sustains for a long time on both low pH and high pH liquids. The foam concentrate can be used with a wide range of different equipment for low and medium expansion applications. The expansion will vary depending on the performance characteristics of the equipment. For typical aspirating discharge devices the low expansion index is around 10:1 highly depending on device and flow rate. For medium expansion, foaming index of more than 60:1 can be achieved. In cases where a good vapour suppression is required, it is recommended to use a medium expansion foaming device to obtain foam index over 20:1.

Fomtec Hazmat 6% is recommended to be proportioned at 6% to obtain optimal performance. Fomtec Hazmat 6% can easily be proportioned at the correct dilution using conventional equipment, such as:

  • In-line inductors
  • Balanced pressure, variable flow proportioning systems
  • Bladder tanks
  • Around the pump proportioning systems
  • Water turbine driven foam proportioners
  • Self-inducting branch pipes and nozzles

Fomtec Hazmat 6% is formulated using raw materials specially selected for their fire performance and their environ-mental profile. All raw materials are registered in the European REACH-database. Fomtec Hazmat 6% is non-toxic, biode-gradable and each individual component is fully tested and documented.
Fomtec only uses C6 Pure fluoro-surfactants and polymers in our Hazmat 6% formulations. More details can be found in the Material Safety Datasheet (MSDS).
The disposal of spills of foam concentrate or premix foam solution should be made in accordance with local regulations. For more detailed information please consult Fomtec Technical Advices FTA 40.

Storage/Shelf life

Stored in original unbroken packaging the product will have a long shelf life. Shelf life in excess of 5 years will be found in temperate climates. As with all foam concentrates, shelf life will be dependent on storage temperatures and conditions. For storage recommendations and material compatibility please refer to Fomtec Technical Advices FTA 10 addressing the topic.

All foam concentrates should be tested annually. Testing should be carried out by an approved laboratory certified to assess firefighting foam quality according to relevant standards, such as NFPA 11, EN 13565-2, EN 1568 and IMO MSC.1Circ. 1312. Storage containers should be inspected and reevaluated for the suitability of the storage location regarding temperature fluctuations (temperature should be as stable as possible). Exposure to direct sunlight should be avoided.
